Traces of Presence
Reviews from Hokkaido Chitose High School Students
- Shiisaa-san
- This is a very simple, monochrome line drawing piece. It masterfully expresses the visual phenomenon caused by light refraction as art through the line work. It really shows the art hidden within everyday life from a point of view you don’t get to see often. The absence of sound also allows the viewers to focus on the artwork, adding to the charm.

- Everyone has experienced moments like this, when moving slightly reveals a different perspective. This animation satisfies that everyday curiosity of wondering what things are like from behind, or what happens when water flows through as we change our point of view. Every angle feels familiar and relatable, which draws the viewers in as they watch.
Synopsis
This motion graphics piece explores “presence,” nestled between perspectives and time, along with the theme of resolution. Smooth morphing animations rendered in high frame rates depict undivided, continuous time, unlike apparent motion. Through transitions between varied layouts, the work suggests shifts in viewpoints, perspective, and the vector–pixel relationship. Using inorganic vector graphics, it visualizes the trace of time someone once spent in that space—their lingering presence.
