BABA Tomoaki - Prime

Synopsis

A convenience store in a rural town. Everyone in the town likes to drink the same bottled drink. One day, strange incidents start occurring one after another in the town, where people disappear leaving only their clothes behind. The sheriff investigating the case finds a suspicious man on a full moon night. A music video for "PRIME" by Tomoaki Baba, created by combining live-action footage of a paper doll and cut-out animation.

PROFILE

TSUCHIYA Hoji

Born in 1984, Hoji Tsuchiya is an animation artist. He began creating animations in 2004 in the closet of his home, using a distinctive combination of paper cutting, collage, and drawing. His short film "Black Long Skirt" was nominated for the Ottawa International Animation Festival (2011). His commercial project, the Pocari Sweat web movie "The Scuffing Song," won the D&AD Yellow Pencil (2024). He has directed music videos including Uri Nakayamaʼs "Spring Time-Old Man" SE SO NEONʼs "A Long Dream," and Tomoaki Babaʼs "PRIME," as well as animation series such as "Hattake-san" and "Planet Brothers" for the NHK Educational TV program "Shakin'!". Since 2011, he has been intermittently producing the short animation "Hoichi," based on the Japanese ghost story "Hoichi the Earless," which remains in production today.
