mimimipartii

This stop-motion animation by ”mimimipartii”—a duo comprising Mita Suzumi and Mashumaromi—features layers of paint applied directly to a wall and manipulated to create a writhing, fluid effect. A soundscape woven from handclaps, ambient everyday noises, and chaotic cheers amplifies the work’s enigmatic and chaotic atmosphere. In this piece, the production team manipulating the wall acts as ”internal organs and cells, ” transforming the static wall into a single living organism. It draws a striking parallel between buildings and human beings: structures where only the contents—such as people or thoughts—flow and shift, while the form itself remains constant. This bizarre, philosophical experimental work blurs the boundaries between the two, presenting a city where buildings, rather than humans, exist as the protagonists, and where the architecture and its inhabitants have assimilated into a single entity.

A visual poem that expresses the ephemeral cycle of a single ”life”—from its birth and glorious bloom to its eventual passing—through geometric forms. Various geometric patterns interlink, gradually increasing in chromatic richness until they transform into a vibrant kaleidoscope filling the entire screen. The film captures the perpetual flux of the universe and the brilliance of life through a deliberate juxtaposition of inorganic shapes and AI-generated soundscapes.

SATO Yuka

I got a camera with a built-in printer that lets me print photos right after taking them. The photos aren’t saved; when you take a picture, you either print it or delete it. I rephotographed these prints one by one. A record of Wakkanai, Rebun, and Rishiri—in the far northern tip of Japan, Hokkaido.

One hundred years have passed since local residents, hoping to welcome the Hokkai No. 1, prepared the land with their own hands. “My Airport” is an animated documentary that layer's frames created in a participatory community workshop over documentary footage capturing the skies and airport of present-day Chitose City, where aircraft come and go. The efforts of those who once created a place to welcome an aircraft are carried forward through the brushstrokes of participants drawing time by hand, frame by frame. Those departing, those seeing them off, and those passing through for countless reasons—the memories intersecting in this place converge in the next frame. What memories will remain in the airport of the future?
